Duluth, Minn. – Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across northern Minnesota this afternoon and evening, with heavier rain chances building toward the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a mix of isolated to scattered storms is likely today, mainly between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m., with the strongest activity stretching from Brainerd to Hayward. Conditions will briefly dry out Friday night before widespread showers develop Saturday night and continue through Sunday.

Temperatures will hover in the mid-60s to upper 70s through the weekend, but overnight lows could dip into the low 40s. Friday may bring numerous showers, including embedded thunderstorms in southern portions of the Northland. The highest coverage of rain is expected Saturday night into early Sunday, increasing the risk of ponding on roads and reduced visibility.

Drivers should avoid flooded low spots, and residents are urged to secure outdoor items and prepare for wet conditions through Sunday. Campers and boaters should monitor radar updates and have safety plans ready, especially during late evening hours.

Rain chances taper off by late Sunday, but more updates are expected as the weekend system evolves.
