Duluth, MN – Residents across northern Minnesota should prepare for strong winds and unsettled weather late Saturday into Sunday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Forecasters say scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop Saturday night and continue into Sunday. Temperatures will remain above average through the weekend before cooling to near-normal levels next week.

According to the NWS, winds will be strongest on Sunday, when gusts of 35 mph or higher are likely across much of the region. A Wind Advisory may be issued if conditions worsen. Along Lake Superior, a Gale Watch has been posted for the North Shore, where gale-force gusts could make marine travel hazardous.

The marine forecast warns of particularly dangerous conditions Sunday, with peak gusts ranging from 30 to 40 mph across much of western Lake Superior, including areas near Grand Marais, Silver Bay, and Two Harbors. Boaters are urged to monitor forecasts closely and avoid travel if possible.

Despite the wind, rainfall is expected to be scattered and generally light, though some areas could see brief thunderstorms. After the system passes, forecasters expect a return to calmer, cooler conditions beginning Monday.
