Duluth, MN – Cooler air sweeping into northern Minnesota and Wisconsin is expected to bring multiple rounds of light snow this weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Duluth. Highs will struggle to rise above freezing, with widespread 20s and 30s expected through Sunday.
The main focus will be lake effect snow developing along the South Shore of Lake Superior, where totals could reach 2 to 4 inches in the higher elevations of Iron County, Wisconsin, especially near Hurley and Upson. Snowfall rates are expected to peak Sunday morning, bringing the most accumulation of the weekend.
Elsewhere, the Minnesota Arrowhead may see light snow showers with less than an inch expected. Friday and Saturday will feature occasional snow or rain showers, mainly near Superior and Ashland, with totals generally under one inch.
Forecast models show temperatures dipping into the teens overnight, marking one of the first true winter weekends of the season. Motorists should be alert for slick roads, especially in areas impacted by lake effect bands.
