Duluth, MN – A weekend weather system will bring light to moderate snowfall across northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin before an Arctic airmass settles in early next week, according to the National Weather Service in Duluth.

Snow is expected to begin Saturday morning and continue through Saturday night, with accumulations of 2 to 6 inches possible, particularly across northwest Wisconsin. The heaviest totals are forecast near the South Shore, where lake-effect snow may lead to locally higher amounts.

Following the snowfall, forecasters warn of a sharp drop in temperatures as Arctic air moves in late Sunday. By Monday morning, temperatures will fall into the single digits, with wind chills in the negative teens likely. A second burst of frigid air is expected Wednesday night into Thursday, continuing the stretch of below-normal cold.

Drivers are advised to use caution on snow-covered roads this weekend and prepare for dangerous wind chills next week. Residents should ensure vehicles and homes are winter-ready as temperatures remain well below freezing through early December.
