DULUTH, Minn. – Warm fall sunshine will give way to rain showers and a brisk cooldown across northern Minnesota by late Sunday, as a cold front sweeps through the region. Highs will hold in the 60s Saturday before tumbling into the 50s Monday, marking the first significant shift toward cooler October air.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, Saturday will stay mostly sunny with light south winds at 5–15 mph. However, by Sunday morning, southeast winds will strengthen to 15–25 mph, pulling in moisture ahead of the front. Widespread rain showers are expected from Brainerd to International Falls through the afternoon and evening, potentially making for wet roads and slower travel along I-35 and Highway 53.

The front will move east Sunday night, ushering in much cooler and drier air. Monday’s highs may struggle to reach 55 degrees in north-central Minnesota, with lingering clouds giving way to partial clearing by afternoon. Winds from the northwest at 5–15 mph will add an extra chill, signaling a more seasonable stretch ahead.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items before Sunday’s gusty winds, and motorists should prepare for reduced visibility during heavier rain. Cooler nights early next week could bring patchy frost in low-lying areas, so gardeners may want to protect sensitive plants.
