Duluth, Minnesota – Warm, humid air across Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin is setting the stage for potential severe thunderstorms Friday evening into Saturday, though uncertainty remains about when — and if — storms will fully ignite.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, conditions are ripe for storm development, especially across central and northern Minnesota Friday night. However, strong upper-level warmth may suppress storm initiation until later. Areas along the I-35 corridor, including Brainerd and Duluth, face a marginal to slight risk for strong storms into early Saturday morning.

By Saturday, confidence increases as instability builds and thunderstorm coverage becomes more widespread. Northwestern Wisconsin and areas from Bemidji to Grand Rapids may see a greater concentration of strong storms, with gusty winds and isolated hail possible.

Residents in cities like Hibbing, Superior, and Two Harbors should monitor forecasts closely, avoid unnecessary travel during active storms, and secure outdoor items that could blow around in gusty winds.

Thunderstorm chances taper late Saturday, but additional advisories may be issued if conditions intensify or shift.
