Duluth, Minnesota – Drivers across northern Minnesota could face rapidly deteriorating travel conditions this evening as a significant winter storm pushes into the region, bringing several inches of snow through Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, light snow arriving this afternoon will intensify this evening, becoming moderate to heavy at times overnight. The system is expected to impact much of northeastern Minnesota and northern Wisconsin through Monday morning, with the heaviest snowfall developing late tonight.

Communities including Duluth, Two Harbors, Silver Bay, and Grand Marais could see 3 to 12 inches of snow, though totals may vary depending on the exact track of the storm. Inland areas such as Aitkin and Brainerd could see 6 to 12 inches, while parts of northern Wisconsin near Ashland, Hayward, and Rice Lake may receive over a foot of snow, with some locations potentially exceeding 18 inches.

Heavy snowfall rates could quickly reduce visibility and create slick conditions on major routes including Interstate 35, U.S. Highway 53, and Highway 61 along the North Shore.

Residents are encouraged to complete travel and storm preparations before conditions worsen later this evening. Forecasters say snowfall will gradually taper off Monday morning, though hazardous travel could persist into the early part of the day.
