DULUTH, Minn. – Wind races off Lake Superior this morning, bending trees and rattling loose signs as another blustery start to November grips the Northland. Drivers along I-35 and Highway 53 should expect strong crosswinds, while residents in open country hear steady gusts sweeping over the fields and lakes.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Wind Advisory remains in effect through 6 p.m. CST for much of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, including Duluth, Superior, Ashland, and the Arrowhead. Southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will gust as high as 45 mph. Tree limbs could come down, and isolated power flickers may occur, especially near the higher terrain of St. Louis and Lake Counties.
Gusts ease later Monday as cooler, drier air filters in behind the departing front. Sunshine returns for a stretch of calmer weather through midweek, though temperatures will stay brisk with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s. Tuesday looks mainly dry, but forecasters are tracking another weak system that could bring a few sprinkles or light rain chances late Thursday into Friday.
Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor decorations, trash bins, and Halloween displays before the next gust cycle peaks this afternoon. Use extra caution on bridges and exposed stretches of highway.
La Niña remains the dominant pattern this season, often bringing windy, variable Novembers to the western Great Lakes. Longer-range models hint that the first measurable snow for the Duluth area could appear near mid-month—just ahead of Thanksgiving travel.
