DULUTH, Minn. – Residents across northeast Minnesota woke to chilly conditions Saturday morning, with frost concerns lingering overnight before showers and thunderstorms move back into the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, patchy frost remains possible Saturday night in parts of the Arrowhead, Iron Range, and inland northwest Wisconsin. However, forecasters stress a widespread freeze is not expected. A few scattered thunderstorms could develop in northeast Minnesota Saturday afternoon, though severe weather risk is low.

Communities stretching from Hibbing to Grand Marais and Ashland, Wisconsin, should prepare for rapid temperature drops overnight, with lows dipping into the low 40s. Homeowners are urged to cover sensitive plants or bring them indoors to avoid damage from the cold.

By Monday, a stronger system moves into the region, bringing a higher chance of rain showers and embedded thunderstorms into Tuesday. Commuters along I-35 and U.S. Highway 2 should plan for slick roads and possible reduced visibility.

While no widespread alerts are in effect for the weekend, forecasters note additional advisories could be issued if conditions change.
