DULUTH, Minn. – Drivers across northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin woke up to dense fog early Tuesday, with visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less on several highways. The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for Carlton and South St. Louis Counties in Minnesota, along with Douglas County in Wisconsin, including the Fond du Lac Tribal lands.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. Tuesday. Motorists are urged to use low-beam headlights, slow down, and leave extra space between vehicles as patchy fog lingers through the morning commute. Fog is likely to return again tonight.
Conditions are expected to change later this week as a more significant threat emerges. Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Thursday into Friday, potentially bringing damaging winds and heavy downpours across the region.
In Duluth, skies will clear by midweek with highs reaching the upper 70s, but storm chances climb Thursday afternoon and into the overnight hours. Superior and surrounding communities should prepare for shifting conditions that could impact evening travel and outdoor events late in the week.
