Duluth, Minnesota – Snow and blowing snow continue across northern Wisconsin early Monday, with hazardous travel conditions persisting through the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. CST for Price, Sawyer, Douglas, and Bayfield Counties. A previously issued Winter Storm Warning has been cancelled, but lingering impacts remain across the region.
Additional snowfall of up to two inches is expected, with wind gusts reaching 40 miles per hour. In Price and Sawyer Counties, blowing snow may create localized whiteout conditions, with visibility briefly reduced to around one-quarter mile.
In Bayfield and Douglas Counties, lake effect snow is producing highly variable conditions. The National Weather Service reports that visibility may change rapidly over short distances, especially along Highway 2 and State Route 13 along the South Shore, including areas near the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.
Roads are expected to remain slick and snow-covered, particularly on untreated surfaces. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute, especially in open areas prone to blowing snow.
The advisory also includes Tribal Lands, including the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation and the Red Cliff Band, where travel conditions may deteriorate quickly as snow bands shift.
Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and remain alert for sudden drops in visibility. Wisconsin road conditions are available by calling 511 or visiting 511wi.gov.
Weather officials emphasize that lake effect snow bands can cause heavy snow in one area and little accumulation just miles away, making preparedness essential for anyone traveling this morning.
