DULUTH, Minn. — A thin frost dusts rooftops near Lake Superior this morning, the air crisp and still ahead of another big temperature swing. Sunshine holds through Friday, but a gusty northwest wind and possible rain-to-snow mix Saturday will mark the season’s next winter tease for northeastern Minnesota.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, highs will reach the low 50s Friday before clouds increase late in the day. Winds will shift northwest behind a weak front, gusting up to 25 mph by Saturday morning. That wind, funneled off the lake, will drive a sharp drop in temperatures — from near 48°F early Saturday to the 30s by evening. A few showers could briefly mix with light snow, mainly north and west of the Twin Ports.

While no accumulation is expected, slick spots may develop along higher-elevation roads, including stretches of Highway 53 and I-35 north toward Two Harbors. Travelers heading into the Arrowhead should watch for sudden visibility changes, especially near open fields and bridges where light snow could swirl.

Sunday brings calmer weather, though highs will barely touch 39°F. The chill deepens into early next week, signaling a steady pattern shift toward more typical late-November cold. Models even hint at a stronger front midweek that could open the door for a broader snow chance just before Thanksgiving travel begins.

For now, bundle up for the weekend’s windy change — winter is testing the waters over Lake Superior once again.
