Duluth, MN – A widespread freeze is expected across northern Minnesota tonight, marking a likely end to the 2025 growing season. The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a Freeze Warning from 10 p.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday, covering the entire Northland region.

According to the US National Weather Service Duluth, overnight lows are forecast to dip below 32°F in most inland areas, with temperatures in the upper 20s possible in parts of the Iron Range, Brainerd, and International Falls. Areas directly along the Lake Superior shoreline, including Duluth and Two Harbors, may avoid a full freeze, but frost formation is still expected.

The weather service warns that tonight’s cold snap will end the growing season for most of the region, signaling the transition into late fall conditions. Residents are urged to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing ahead of the temperature drop.

Wednesday morning temperatures will gradually rebound, but another round of below-freezing lows may return later in the week, forecasters said.
