Duluth, MN – Northern Minnesota residents are in for another spectacular night of aurora viewing, as forecasters expect clear skies and strong geomagnetic activity across the region.

According to the US National Weather Service Duluth, a G4-level geomagnetic storm from the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center is forecast to continue through tonight, creating prime conditions for the northern lights over much of the Northland. The latest sky cover forecast shows 0–5% cloud coverage for Duluth, Ely, International Falls, and Grand Rapids through the overnight hours, meaning crystal-clear viewing for most of the area.

The best time to see the aurora will be from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., when geomagnetic activity peaks. Bright greens and reds may be visible across the entire northern horizon — and possibly overhead — for those in rural areas away from city lights.

Temperatures overnight will fall into the 20s and low 30s, so viewers are advised to bundle up if heading outdoors to watch the show.
