Duluth, Minnesota – Light snow is falling across the Northland early today as a fast-moving clipper system slides through, creating slick travel conditions on area roads during the morning hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, light snow is impacting a large portion of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin this morning. Total accumulations are expected to remain under one inch for most locations, but even small amounts of snow are enough to coat roadways and reduce traction. Minnesota Department of Transportation cameras along I-35 near Moose Lake already show snow-covered pavement, highlighting the potential for slippery travel.

The snow is expected to taper off later this morning across northeast Minnesota, including Duluth, Two Harbors, Hibbing, and Grand Rapids. Northwest Wisconsin communities such as Ashland, Hayward, and Phillips may see light snow linger a bit longer into the early afternoon before ending.

While snowfall amounts will stay minimal, visibility may briefly drop during steadier bursts, and untreated roads, bridges, and ramps could remain slick. Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time during the morning commute and weekend travel.

Conditions should gradually improve as snowfall ends and crews work to clear roads. Forecasters note this system is only the first of multiple winter disturbances this weekend, with another round of snow possible later Sunday. Additional updates will be issued as conditions evolve.
