Duluth, Minn. – Drivers along the Twin Ports face rapidly changing road conditions within the next 30 minutes as a concentrated band of snow moves across key highways, cutting visibility to less than one mile and creating slick travel early Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a heavier snow band is tracking across the region by mid-morning, first impacting US-53 from Hermantown to Independence before spreading toward US-2 and I-35. Visibility reductions below one mile are expected during the heaviest bursts, especially along elevated roadways and open stretches.

Across northeastern Minnesota, light snow continues with intermittent heavier showers embedded in the system. Duluth, Superior, and nearby communities including Proctor and Two Harbors may see quick bursts of snow that coat roads just in time for the late morning commute. MnDOT crews are monitoring conditions, but untreated roads and bridges could become slick within minutes during heavier bands.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance, and avoid sudden braking. Keep headlights on and prepare for rapidly shifting visibility, especially along US-53 and I-35 corridors.

Snow showers will linger through much of the day with brief breaks possible, but additional bursts could redevelop without warning. Advisories may expand if conditions worsen through midday Monday.
