Duluth, MN – A cold front is sliding across the Northland this afternoon, bringing a quick round of light to moderate rain followed by cooler temperatures and blustery northwest winds. The National Weather Service Duluth office shared a midday radar update Thursday showing the front pushing southeast across the Twin Ports and North Shore.
According to forecasters, rain showers are moving directly along the boundary, producing brief precipitation before much colder air funnels in behind the front. Surface observations paired with radar imagery indicate the front had moved through portions of northeast Minnesota by 12:10 p.m., with showers spreading into Duluth, Superior, Two Harbors, Silver Bay, and nearby shoreline communities.
Winds will shift abruptly to the northwest behind the front, becoming breezy through the afternoon and early evening. Temperatures are expected to fall steadily once the rain passes, setting up a cooler end to the day across the region.
While rainfall totals are expected to remain on the lighter side, forecasters note that road surfaces may become damp and visibility may briefly decrease during passing showers. No flooding or wintry impacts are anticipated.
Residents in the Twin Ports and along the North Shore should expect clearing conditions later today as the front continues pushing into northwest Wisconsin.
