Duluth, Minnesota – Snow is expected to develop across northeastern Minnesota Friday evening and continue through Saturday, with the highest accumulations forecast along the North Shore and in portions of the Arrowhead.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a band of snow is expected to form Friday evening and move east overnight. While there remains some uncertainty regarding how far east the initial snow band will extend, light snow is expected to persist through Saturday, enhanced by lake and terrain effects near Lake Superior.

Forecasters said the highest snowfall totals are expected in the Minnesota Arrowhead and along the South Shore, where lake-enhanced snow will be more persistent. Northern Iron County is most likely to see the greatest impacts, with snow totals exceeding 4 inches possible through early Sunday morning.

In Duluth and surrounding inland areas, snowfall amounts are expected to be lighter, though periods of steady snow could still create slick travel conditions. Snowfall probabilities show a higher likelihood of accumulating snow overnight into Saturday morning, with snow gradually tapering later Saturday.

Temperatures will remain cold enough to support all snow, and untreated roads may become snow-covered, particularly overnight and during the Saturday morning hours. While winds are not expected to be extreme, localized blowing snow may occur near open areas along the South Shore.

The National Weather Service emphasized that snowfall totals may vary depending on the exact placement of snow bands and localized lake enhancement. Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates as the system evolves.
