Duluth, MN – Mostly sunny skies will dominate conditions across northeastern Minnesota today before a noticeable cooldown and a small chance for a wintry mix arrive Monday night into Tuesday. While snow and ice impacts are expected to remain minimal, temperatures will swing sharply as colder air settles into the region early in the week.

According to the National Weather Service Duluth, afternoon highs today will range from the upper 30s to mid-40s, with the warmest readings south of Duluth and along the I-35 corridor. Light winds and abundant sunshine will make for a calm end to the weekend.

Cloud cover increases on Monday, particularly south of Highway 2, as a weak system approaches from the west. Highs will reach 39–45 degrees, but colder conditions quickly settle in after sunset. A 20% chance of a wintry mix—including light freezing drizzle or a few snow pellets—develops Monday night. Lows will fall sharply into the 17–24 degree range, creating a much colder start to Tuesday.

Early Tuesday brings another 20% chance for a brief wintry mix, mainly during the morning hours. No significant accumulation is expected, though elevated and untreated surfaces may become slick in spots. Highs Tuesday only reach 33–42 degrees, reinforcing the early-week cooldown. Winds will remain light and variable.

By Wednesday, clouds spread across much of the Northland with highs improving slightly into the 38–44 degree range. Winds from the east-southeast will remain gentle.

Forecasters note that while precipitation amounts will be light, the combination of a wintry mix and overnight lows in the teens may create isolated slippery patches Monday night into Tuesday. Drivers should be cautious during the morning commute and stay updated as conditions develop.
