Duluth, Minnesota — Another round of accumulating snow is expected to move into northeastern Minnesota Friday evening and continue overnight, with gusty winds adding to travel concerns into Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, snow is forecast to begin late Friday afternoon as a fast-moving clipper system passes through the Northland. Most areas are expected to receive 3 inches of snow or less, though lake-enhanced snowfall along the North Shore could produce locally higher totals of up to 4 inches.

In Duluth, snowfall amounts are expected to range between 1 and 3 inches through Saturday morning. Communities farther inland, including Brainerd, Grand Rapids, and Hibbing, are forecast to see similar totals. Along the North Shore, including Silver Bay and Grand Marais, enhanced snowfall from Lake Superior could lead to more persistent snow showers and higher accumulations.

Winds are also expected to increase Friday evening, with gusts up to 35 mph possible overnight and into Saturday, particularly along the North Shore. The National Weather Service said the combination of falling snow and gusty winds could lead to reduced visibility at times, though heavier, wetter snow may limit widespread blowing snow.

Forecasters noted that light lake-effect snow may linger into early Sunday in parts of Iron County, even after the main system exits the region. Winds are expected to gradually decrease late Saturday night.

Drivers are urged to use caution during Friday night and early Saturday travel, especially on highways exposed to crosswinds and in areas prone to lake-enhanced snow. Slick roads and brief whiteout conditions are possible in heavier snow bands.

Temperatures will remain cold through the weekend, with highs Saturday staying below seasonal averages. Road crews are expected to remain active overnight treating highways and major routes.
