Duluth, MN – Lake effect snow will continue across portions of northern Minnesota today, particularly in northern Iron County, according to the National Weather Service in Duluth.
Forecasters say snow is expected to fall at a lighter rate than Wednesday, but inland lake effect snow from larger lakes could still produce up to 2 inches of accumulation by Thursday evening. Areas most affected include northern Iron County and locations downwind of inland lakes such as Lake of the Woods.
Elsewhere across the Northland, light snow showers or flurries are possible throughout the day, including in Duluth, Grand Rapids, and Ely. Road conditions may become slick in spots, especially during the morning and evening commute hours.
Temperatures will remain below freezing, and visibility could briefly decrease in heavier snow bands. Snow activity is expected to taper off by early Friday, with dry but cold conditions to follow heading into the weekend.
Residents are encouraged to drive cautiously and monitor updated forecasts as lake effect snow bands shift through the area.
