Duluth, MN – Northern Minnesota residents should prepare for hot weather and the potential for thunderstorms as the week begins, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Duluth.
Southerly winds are pushing temperatures into the upper 70s and 80s across much of the Northland through Wednesday. The warmer air is also bringing increased chances for showers and thunderstorms. NWS forecasters noted that an isolated strong to severe storm could develop Monday in Koochiching and northern St. Louis counties.
By Tuesday evening, storm activity is expected to expand, with widespread showers and thunderstorms possible through Thursday. Forecast models show a persistent 10–40% chance of precipitation across the region as multiple low-pressure systems track across the Upper Midwest.
Temperatures will begin cooling during the second half of the week, with highs dipping into the 60s by Thursday and Friday for many northern Minnesota communities, including Ely, Duluth, and International Falls.
Travelers and residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and be alert to rapidly changing weather conditions, particularly during peak afternoon and evening hours when storms are most likely to form.
