Duluth, MN – Northern Minnesota will see a sharp shift in weather patterns this week, with record-breaking heat followed by thunderstorms and strong winds heading into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, temperatures will steadily climb through Friday and Saturday, when highs could reach the mid-80s in some areas. Forecasters say these temperatures may set new October records across parts of the Northland.
While the start of the week remains mostly dry, with partly sunny skies and mild conditions, showers and thunderstorms become more likely by Friday night into Saturday. Some of the storms could be strong, with heavy rain and gusty winds. By Sunday, a strong westerly wind system is expected to move in, bringing gusts in excess of 25 to 35 miles per hour and keeping conditions unsettled.
Daytime highs will range from the lower 70s to mid-80s Friday and Saturday before falling back into the 60s by Sunday. Lows will hover in the 50s until cooler air returns late in the weekend.
Residents across Duluth, Superior, and the greater Northland are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts, especially if planning outdoor activities this weekend. The mix of extreme warmth and storm potential could create rapidly changing conditions.
