DULUTH, Minn. – Off-and-on rain showers will dampen northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin through Sunday as a slow-moving low pressure system stalls along the Dakotas–Minnesota border. Residents across the Northland should prepare for wet roads, cooler air, and occasional storms, though severe weather is not expected.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, rain chances rise sharply on Friday, with areas around Brainerd facing up to an 85% chance of showers. Duluth, Virginia, and Moose Lake could see rain coverage near 70%, while lighter chances remain closer to Grand Portage at 30%. Saturday keeps the region unsettled, with most cities holding a 55% to 65% chance of showers.

Drivers should anticipate slick roadways on Highway 53, I-35, and regional county roads as showers come in waves. While flooding is not anticipated, low visibility and wet pavement may slow weekend travel. Outdoor events across northern Minnesota will face repeated interruptions, especially Friday into Saturday.

The unsettled pattern begins to break down Sunday as the low weakens and pulls east. Showers may linger into the evening, but conditions are expected to gradually dry out into Monday.
