Minnesota – Wind scrapes across frozen pavement this morning, stinging faces and rattling loose snow along Lake Superior’s shoreline. The cold feels immediate and unforgiving, tightening its grip as daylight slowly spreads across the Northland.

In Duluth, temperatures sit near zero, but wind chills plunge much lower. Gusts from the northwest drive apparent temperatures into the 20 to 30 degrees below zero range today. The National Weather Service warns that exposed skin can freeze quickly, especially during early travel hours. A Hazardous Weather Outlook remains in place for northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.

Light snow showers linger at times this morning, combined with blowing snow that reduces visibility in open areas. Road surfaces appear dry in spots but refreeze quickly. Bridges, hills, and shaded roads remain slick, particularly along I-35 and higher elevations near the lake. Plan extra time if driving and keep winter gear close.

Conditions stay brutally cold into tonight. Lows dip below zero again, with wind chills remaining dangerous through Wednesday morning. Wednesday brings little relief, as highs struggle near five degrees. Winds ease slightly, but cold air stays locked in place.

Thursday and Friday continue the trend. Morning wind chills may again approach 20 to 35 degrees below zero, prompting additional Cold Weather Advisories. Sunshine increases late week, yet warmth does not follow quickly.

Looking toward the weekend, temperatures slowly rebound. Highs climb into the teens Saturday and near 20 by Sunday. Clouds increase late, and a slight snow chance returns, though moisture appears limited for now.

Longer-range outlooks hint at colder-than-normal conditions lingering into early February across the Upper Midwest. For now, limit outdoor exposure, dress in layers, and check on neighbors and pets.

Heading out this morning? How are road and wind conditions where you are?
