Duluth, MN – Minnesota residents should prepare for a significant shift in weather this weekend as a cold front brings strong winds, freezing conditions, and light snowfall to parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, warm temperatures on Friday will give way to a cold front moving through the region Saturday night. Blustery northwesterly winds will increase Saturday afternoon and peak overnight into Sunday, with gusts reaching 30 to 45 mph.

A refreeze is possible Saturday evening as temperatures quickly drop below freezing, increasing the risk of slippery road conditions. Any remaining moisture on surfaces may freeze rapidly, posing hazards for travelers and pedestrians.

Light to locally moderate snowfall is also forecast, mainly in northern Minnesota. The heaviest accumulation is expected in far north-central Minnesota, including Koochiching, Itasca, and Cass counties, where there is a 20-40% chance of a few inches of snow. Rain may mix with snow before transitioning entirely to snow by Saturday evening.

Residents are advised to exercise caution on roads, secure outdoor objects due to high winds, and prepare for potential travel disruptions. The cold and blustery conditions are expected to persist into Sunday before improving early next week.
