Davenport, Iowa – A Flood Watch remains in effect for much of eastern Iowa, western Illinois, and parts of northeast Missouri until 7 p.m. Sunday as repeated rounds of thunderstorms bring the threat of flash flooding. Rainfall rates could top 3 inches per hour in the heaviest storms, overwhelming drainage systems and pushing rivers and creeks over their banks.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the most at-risk areas include urban neighborhoods with poor drainage, low-lying rural roads, and locations near swollen rivers such as the Mississippi and Cedar. Flooding could also impact travel along highways including I-80, U.S. 61, and U.S. 20.

Cities under the watch include Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Dubuque, Muscatine, Davenport, Rock Island, Moline, Galena, and Burlington. In Illinois, flood-prone areas in Carroll, Henry, Rock Island, and Whiteside counties remain under close observation. Northeast Missouri counties of Clark and Scotland are also included.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads, monitor local alerts, and move valuables from basements or ground-level rooms. Rain will gradually taper off late this evening, but river levels may continue to rise into Monday, prompting potential additional advisories.
