DuBois, PA – Drivers across central Pennsylvania should plan for slippery travel early Monday as light snow continues to fall under multiple Winter Weather Advisories issued by the National Weather Service.
According to the National Weather Service offices in State College and Pittsburgh, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect until 7 a.m. EST Monday for several counties, including Clearfield, Elk, Cambria, Somerset, Forest, Clarion, and Jefferson counties. Cities impacted include DuBois, Clearfield, St. Marys, Ridgway, Johnstown, Somerset, Punxsutawney, Brookville, and Clarion.
Forecasters say additional snowfall totals will generally range from a dusting up to one inch across Clearfield, Elk, Cambria, and Somerset counties. In Forest, Clarion, and Jefferson counties, snowfall amounts could reach up to two inches before the advisory expires.
While snowfall amounts are relatively light, officials warn that untreated roads could become slick overnight and into the early morning hours. Gusty winds up to 35 mph are also possible in Cambria and Somerset counties, which may reduce visibility at times due to blowing snow.
The hazardous conditions are expected to coincide with the Monday morning commute, particularly on secondary roads, bridges, and elevated surfaces. Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time.
Residents are encouraged to check road conditions before heading out by calling 511 or visiting Pennsylvania’s 511 traffic website. The National Weather Service also asks the public to report snow and ice accumulations through local NWS offices or official social media channels.
With temperatures remaining cold early Monday, lingering slick spots could persist even after snowfall tapers off toward sunrise.
