Jasper, IN – A routine traffic stop late Friday night in Jasper led to the arrest of a Huntingburg man after a K-9 alerted officers to the presence of narcotics, according to the Indiana State Police Jasper Post.
The stop occurred around 9:45 p.m. on January 9, 2025, near Newton Street and 10th Street. Trooper Jon Villanueva pulled over a Honda passenger car for failing to dim its bright headlights. During the encounter, Villanueva reportedly noticed indicators of criminal activity and requested assistance from Jasper Police Sergeant Duncan and his K-9 partner, Mack.
According to state police, K-9 Mack conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle and gave a positive alert. Officers searched the car and discovered two small bags containing approximately one gram of suspected methamphetamine, along with controlled substances and drug paraphernalia.
Trooper Villanueva arrested the passenger, identified as 58-year-old Jesse B. Reed of Huntingburg, without incident. Reed was transported to the Dubois County Jail.
Police said Reed was preliminarily charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of a legend drug, both Level 6 felonies, along with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
