Portland, Maine – Dangerous surf continues to batter Maine’s coastline through Saturday evening as Hurricane Erin churns far out in the Atlantic, while inland communities see cool, dry nights and mild daytime highs.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a High Surf Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday. Long-period waves are expected to peak at 7 to 10 feet, especially along Downeast beaches near Jonesport, Cutler, and Bar Harbor. Minor roadway splashing during high tide is possible, and forecasters urge residents to stay well back from rocks and jetties.
Away from the coast, Maine stays mostly dry with lows dipping into the 50s tonight. Skies will be partly cloudy in the north, while Bangor and much of central Maine remain clear. Patchy fog could form in valleys from Dover-Foxcroft to Calais, reducing visibility for early drivers. A warm front approaches Saturday, bringing a chance of brief showers across northern Aroostook County.
Daytime highs will range from the mid-70s inland to near 80 in Bangor and Dover-Foxcroft by Sunday. Cold air arrives Saturday night, reinforcing the cool, breezy pattern.
The High Surf Advisory may be extended further if Hurricane Erin’s swell lingers into early Sunday.
