Bangor, Maine – A frost advisory will take effect across parts of eastern Maine early Thursday, with temperatures dipping to 30–32 degrees between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Sensitive vegetation could be damaged or killed if left unprotected.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, the advisory includes southern Penobscot, interior Hancock, and central Washington counties. Cities and towns at risk include Bangor, Orono, Old Town, Calais, and communities around Dedham and Princeton. The coldest readings are expected in low-lying valleys and rural inland areas where frost will be most widespread.

Residents are urged to cover gardens, flowers, and late-season crops before heading to bed. Farmers and homeowners should prepare for possible losses if tender vegetation is not shielded. Commuters may also encounter patchy frost on bridges and shaded roadways during the early morning drive.

The frost advisory is scheduled to expire by 8 a.m. Thursday as sunshine brings temperatures back into the upper 50s. However, additional chilly nights remain possible later this week as high pressure lingers across the region.
