Caribou, ME – Residents across central and northern Maine should prepare for a soaking rain beginning Thursday, September 25, as a low-pressure system moves into the region from the Midwest.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, overnight temperatures Wednesday will dip into the 40s under mostly cloudy skies, with patchy fog possible in river valleys. By Thursday morning, rain will begin spreading from the southwest through Bangor and the Central Highlands, reaching eastern Aroostook County by late afternoon.

The heaviest rainfall is expected Thursday evening, with forecasters predicting 0.5 to 0.75 inches across northern areas and 1 to 1.5 inches Downeast. A slight chance of thunder is also possible along the coast. The National Weather Service noted that locally higher rainfall totals could occur near the immediate shoreline.

Rain will linger overnight Thursday into Friday, before gradually tapering off by Friday afternoon. Drivers should expect reduced visibility, slick roads, and potential travel delays, particularly in areas of heavy downpours or fog.

Temperatures will remain seasonably cool, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s and overnight lows in the 40s. Conditions are expected to improve heading into the weekend.
