According to New Hampshire State Police, the incident occurred around 5:44 p.m. on Dec. 3, 2025, after dispatchers received multiple reports of a man walking in the northbound right breakdown lane and moving in and out of the travel lane. While troopers were responding to the scene, they learned the pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle.
The adult male was pronounced deceased shortly after emergency crews arrived. State Police said the driver involved remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (CAR) Unit handled the investigation, which required closing multiple lanes of Route 16 for approximately two and a half hours Wednesday evening. Members of Dover Fire & Rescue and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
