Dorchester County, SC – Deputies arrested a 51-year-old man Saturday night following an alleged hit-and-run and brief pursuit that ended in a 7-Eleven parking lot, according to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the incident began around 7:33 p.m. on November 15 when they responded to the 9100 block of Parlor Drive after an iPhone crash notification alert. Several residents reported their vehicles had been struck by another car that then left the area.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies located a vehicle matching the description with fresh front-end damage. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver allegedly slowed briefly before accelerating and refusing to stop.
The vehicle continued for about two-thirds of a mile before pulling into the 7-Eleven at 9910 Dorchester Road, where deputies initiated a felony stop and ordered the driver out.
Authorities identified the driver as Steven Lamont Wright, 51, who allegedly refused to comply and resisted arrest. Deputies say additional units responded, and Wright was eventually taken to the ground and handcuffed after continued resistance. A juvenile passenger was also found inside the vehicle without a seatbelt.
Wright was charged with Resisting Arrest, Failure to Stop for Blue Lights, and Child Endangerment. The South Carolina Highway Patrol will handle additional charges related to the initial collision.
The sheriff’s office stated the incident remains under internal review per department policy.
