Sturgeon Bay, Wis. – Drivers across Door County have just hours to navigate slick roads before conditions improve, as light snow continues to coat highways and rural routes through noon Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Door County until 12 p.m. CST Saturday. Forecasters expect an additional 1 to 2 inches of snow north of Sturgeon Bay, while areas south toward the Door Peninsula’s base will see minimal new accumulation.
Even modest snowfall is enough to create slippery stretches on Highways 42 and 57, particularly on bridges, overpasses and untreated county roads. Communities including Sister Bay, Fish Creek and Ellison Bay may see snow-covered secondary streets through the late morning hours. Road crews have been treating primary routes, but changing temperatures could allow compacted snow to refreeze.
Motorists should slow down, increase following distance and allow extra time for travel. Wisconsin 511 provides real-time road condition updates statewide.
Snow intensity is expected to taper toward midday, but slick spots may linger into the early afternoon. Additional advisories could be issued if bands redevelop along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
