DeMotte, IN – A DeMotte man was allegedly taken into custody this month after a reported domestic disturbance led to several charges, including battery and resisting law enforcement.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a residence about a mile east of DeMotte on the afternoon of July 11th, 2025, after receiving reports of a domestic incident allegedly involving 33-year-old Zachariah J. Marshall. Authorities stated that Marshall allegedly fled the scene before deputies arrived. Based on the severity of injuries observed, deputies determined there was sufficient probable cause for Marshall’s arrest.

Later that evening, officials were dispatched back to the same residence after receiving information that Marshall had allegedly returned and was reportedly agitated. Upon their arrival, deputies said Marshall became argumentative and allegedly attempted to flee into the residence when informed he was under arrest. A deputy intercepted Marshall at the doorway, where a physical struggle allegedly ensued. Marshall was ultimately taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

Marshall faces several charges, including:

  • Domestic Battery Resulting in Moderate Bodily Injury (Level 6 Felony)
  • Battery Against a Public Safety Official (Level 6 Felony)
  • Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A Misdemeanor)

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that arrests and criminal charges are merely accusations, and every person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
