Dodge City, Kan. – Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected to return across much of Kansas on Friday, with the highest chances for rain in the north-central and northwest portions of the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, storm chances range from 30% to as high as 70% Friday afternoon, with the strongest activity possible near Concordia, Lincoln, and Ellsworth. While the threat for severe weather is low, isolated storms could still produce hail up to half-dollar size and wind gusts near 60 mph.
Widespread rain amounts are expected between 0.10 to 0.50 inches, with locally higher totals in heavier downpours. Cities like Hays, Great Bend, and Ness City have a 50–60% chance of storms, while Dodge City and Garden City are closer to 30–40%.
Drivers are encouraged to watch for rapidly changing road conditions, especially during the evening commute. If thunderstorms develop, residents should stay indoors and avoid flooded areas.
More updates are expected by Thursday night as timing and severity details are refined. Rain chances persist into early Saturday in some areas.
