Dodge City, Kansas – Storms capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and hail up to 1.25 inches could develop near the Oklahoma border after 4 p.m. Friday, creating sudden hazards for evening travel and outdoor activities.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms is in place from late afternoon through early evening, with the most active window between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Storms are expected to form along a boundary near the Kansas–Oklahoma line, with a few strengthening quickly as they move شرق into southwest Kansas.
Communities including Liberal, Ulysses, and Elkhart sit in the zone most likely to see isolated severe storms. While coverage will remain scattered, any storm that intensifies could produce damaging wind gusts and large hail capable of denting vehicles and damaging roofs. Travel along U.S. 83 and U.S. 54 could be briefly impacted by sudden crosswinds and reduced visibility.
Tornado risk remains low, but conditions will support strong updrafts in the most intense cells. Residents are urged to monitor alerts, secure outdoor items, and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
The storm threat will diminish after 10 p.m., though additional updates may be issued if stronger storms develop along the boundary.
