Dodge City, Kan. – Most of Kansas will remain on the dry side into early next week, with only spotty chances for thunderstorms Sunday, Monday night and Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, the best chance for rain will be in central Kansas, while far western parts of the state should see little to no precipitation. Forecasters note overall rainfall is expected to be below average for mid-August, with only localized pockets of heavier storms possible.
Communities along the U.S. 281 and I-70 corridors could pick up brief downpours and lightning, though coverage will be limited. Dodge City, Garden City and Liberal are more likely to stay dry, with only slim opportunities for moisture. Wichita and Salina may see slightly better chances for scattered thunderstorms.
The drier pattern means agricultural fields in central and western Kansas will continue to rely heavily on irrigation. Residents are urged to stay alert for lightning and brief heavy rain in any isolated storms, but most outdoor activities should remain unaffected.
Thunderstorm chances taper off by midweek, with hotter and drier conditions expected to return across the state.
