Dodge City, KS – The National Weather Service in Dodge City has issued both a Freeze Warning and a Freeze Watch for much of southwest Kansas as a strong cold front sweeps through the region.
The Freeze Warning takes effect from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday, covering Pawnee, Ford, Edwards, Kiowa, Seward, Meade, and Clark counties, including cities such as Dodge City, Liberal, Meade, Greensburg, and Larned. Temperatures are expected to fall to around 28 degrees overnight.
A Freeze Watch will follow from Wednesday evening through Thursday morning, with forecasters warning of a second, deeper freeze that could push temperatures into the mid-20s.
According to the Weather Service, frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, damage sensitive vegetation, and impact unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents are urged to cover tender plants, bring outdoor pets inside, and drain sprinkler systems ahead of the back-to-back cold nights.
This midweek freeze pattern marks a clear seasonal shift for western Kansas, ending the area’s mild October streak. Temperatures are expected to gradually rebound by the weekend.
