Dodge City, Kansas – A cold, calm night will bring widespread frost to southwest and west-central Kansas early Tuesday, with temperatures dipping into the upper 20s before sunrise. The National Weather Service in Dodge City has kept a Frost Advisory in effect from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m. CDT Tuesday for areas including Dodge City, Garden City, Liberal, Scott City, and Meade.

According to forecasters, overnight lows are expected to fall as low as 27°F in some valleys and sheltered areas, producing a hard frost capable of damaging sensitive plants and outdoor vegetation. Light winds and clear skies will help maximize cooling overnight, marking one of the coldest mornings of the fall so far.

Residents are urged to cover tender plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and wrap or drain outdoor pipes to prevent freezing. The National Weather Service noted that this cold spell could effectively end the growing season for portions of southwest Kansas.

According to local emergency officials, temperatures will rebound into the mid-50s by Tuesday afternoon under sunny skies, with another chilly night expected midweek. Conditions should moderate slightly heading into the weekend as light southerly winds return.
