Dodge City, KS – The National Weather Service Dodge City says a stretch of unsettled weather is on the way for southwest Kansas later this week, as rain showers and scattered thunderstorms move in Thursday night and continue into Friday night.
Forecasters expect widespread accumulating rainfall, with the highest chances for totals over 0.25 to 0.5 inches, especially east of Highway 283. Rain chances increase Thursday evening, peaking overnight into Friday before tapering off early Saturday.
According to the NWS, the storm system could produce localized heavier downpours, but severe weather is not anticipated at this time. The rain will be beneficial for much of the region following several dry weeks.
Residents in Dodge City, Great Bend, Hays, and Pratt could see steady rainfall, while lighter totals are likely farther west toward the Colorado border. Drivers are advised to prepare for wet roads and slower travel Thursday night and Friday.
