Dodge City, KS – Morning commuters across southwest Kansas are facing dangerous driving conditions today as dense fog covers much of the region, particularly around Dodge City and Garden City.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, pockets of patchy to dense fog developed early Monday morning, reducing visibility to less than a quarter mile in some locations. The heaviest fog stretches across Ford, Finney, and nearby counties, with conditions expected to improve by mid-morning.
Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra travel time as visibility remains poor on major routes including U.S. Highways 50 and 283. The fog could lead to sudden low-visibility zones, especially in rural areas and near open fields.
Weather officials remind residents that dense fog often leads to an increase in morning traffic accidents. Motorists should use caution when approaching intersections and watch for pedestrians and school buses during the early commute.
Fog is forecast to gradually lift after 9 a.m. as temperatures rise and winds increase from the southwest.
