Dodge City, KS – A strong cold front sweeping through Kansas this weekend will bring powerful north winds and a sharp temperature drop, according to the National Weather Service in Dodge City.

Forecasters say north winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts between 35 and 45 mph, are expected throughout Saturday, driving a surge of cold Canadian air across the region. Temperatures will steadily fall through the weekend, leading to what could be the coldest morning of the season early Monday.

By dawn Monday, much of central and western Kansas could see lows near 20 °F, with a 50–70% chance of sub-20 readings across areas like Hays, Great Bend, and Colby. Even locations farther south, including Dodge City and Liberal, are expected to dip well below freezing.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items ahead of the high winds and prepare for wind chills in the teens Monday morning. Drivers on open highways may encounter strong crosswinds, especially on US-50 and I-70.
