Dodge City, KS – Drivers across Dodge City and southwest Kansas should stay alert early Monday as light snow moves through the region, potentially creating slick road conditions during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, light snow developing in northeast Colorado early Monday is expected to spread southeast across west-central and southwest Kansas, impacting areas including Dodge City, Garden City, Scott City, Liberal, and Great Bend before tapering off by early afternoon.
Forecasters say there is a 30% to 50% chance of snow accumulations exceeding 1 inch along a narrow northwest-to-southeast corridor across parts of southwest Kansas. While significant winter impacts are not anticipated, even light snowfall can quickly create slick spots, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated rural roads.
Roadway impacts will be most likely mid-morning through early afternoon, particularly along major routes such as US-50, US-83, US-400, and K-96, where traffic speeds may increase the risk of sliding on snow-dusted pavement.
The National Weather Service notes that travel impacts should remain minimal, but drivers are still encouraged to:
- Slow down on snow-covered roads
- Increase following distance
- Use caution on elevated surfaces
- Allow extra travel time, especially during the morning hours
Snow is expected to dissipate by early afternoon, with improving road conditions later in the day as precipitation ends.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and road conditions if traveling this morning, especially in areas where snowfall briefly becomes more persistent.
