DODGE CITY, Kan. – Western Kansas will stay unseasonably warm Friday with afternoon highs stretching well into the 80s, bringing one more late-September push of summer-like weather. Cities near the Colorado border such as Syracuse, Elkhart, and Lamar could climb to 87 degrees, while most central locations including Dodge City, Pratt, and Larned remain in the lower 80s.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, sunshine and light winds will dominate the day, creating dry conditions across the region. Garden City and Scott City should reach 84, while Medicine Lodge trends slightly warmer at 86. Cooler pockets, including Hays and Coldwater, are forecast near 82.

The stretch of warmth could make for ideal harvest weather, but officials remind residents to stay hydrated if working outdoors. Drivers may also notice hazy conditions in some rural areas as dust is stirred up in the afternoon breeze.

Temperatures are expected to ease slightly over the weekend, with most locations holding steady in the low 80s before cooler fall air returns early next week.
