Dodge City, KS – The National Weather Service in Dodge City is warning residents to prepare for very windy conditions Monday, October 20, as a strong cold front moves across southwest Kansas.

According to the National Weather Service, north winds of 25 to 30 mph with gusts reaching up to 40 mph are expected throughout the day Monday. The strongest winds are forecast in areas including Goodland, Colby, and Hill City, where gusts could briefly exceed 45 mph.

The front will move through early Monday, ushering in cooler, drier air behind it. Afternoon highs will fall into the 50s and 60s across much of western and central Kansas. Winds will gradually weaken by late evening.

The National Weather Service advises residents to secure outdoor items, use caution on highways—especially for high-profile vehicles—and be prepared for patchy blowing dust in open rural areas.

Tuesday will bring calmer, cooler weather as temperatures continue to drop overnight under clear skies.
