Dodge City, KS – A strong blast of cold air is set to sweep across southwest Kansas this weekend, bringing the sharpest temperature drop of the young cold season, according to the National Weather Service in Dodge City.
Forecasters say a powerful cold front from Canada will drive south across the Plains late Friday into Saturday, sending temperatures plummeting into the 20s by Sunday morning. Some areas along the I-70 corridor may even see readings dip into the upper teens.
Highs are expected to fall from the 70s on Thursday to the 40s by Sunday, with brisk northwest winds adding to the chill. The NWS warns that this front will bring the first widespread hard freeze of the season, potentially ending the growing season across the region.
Residents are urged to protect pets, plants, and plumbing as temperatures stay below freezing through early next week.
