Dodge City, Kansas – A brief but potentially impactful band of snow could affect travel in and around Dodge City early Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, a narrow swath of snow is expected to develop late tonight around 3 a.m. near Syracuse and Scott City, then spread southeast toward Garden City by 6 a.m. and Dodge City by around 8 a.m. Monday.
Forecasters say snow at any given location is expected to last three to four hours, limiting overall accumulation. However, the probability of at least 0.5 inches of snow ranges from 50 to 70 percent along a corridor from Dodge City to Cimarron, Garden City, and Scott City. Localized higher totals of 1 to 1.5 inches are possible within the narrow band.
While snowfall amounts are expected to remain modest, officials warn that road conditions could deteriorate quickly, especially during the Monday morning commute. Motorists traveling along US-50, US-83, and US-56 should be prepared for slick spots, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roadways.
The National Weather Service noted that areas farther west and east of the narrow band, including Hays and Elkhart, are not expected to receive significant snowfall.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and stay alert for rapidly changing conditions early Monday.
Forecasters emphasized that small shifts in the snow band could affect which communities see the highest totals.
