Dodge City, Kan. – Isolated severe thunderstorms could impact southwest and central Kansas late Tuesday afternoon through late evening, bringing hail and damaging winds along and west of U.S. Route 83. The most active period is expected between 4 and 11 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, some storms may produce wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail near one inch in diameter. While heavier rain and storms are more likely east of Route 83, residents west of the highway remain under the higher risk zone for severe activity.
Cities including Garden City, Liberal, and Dodge City could see rapid storm development during the evening commute, raising the potential for hazardous travel conditions on highways and rural roads. Power outages are possible if stronger storms develop.
Forecasters say the severe threat should diminish late tonight, but general thunderstorm chances continue into Wednesday. While no highlighted severe risk is in place for midweek, stronger storms cannot be ruled out. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor local alerts, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours.
Thunderstorm chances may return again late Wednesday, keeping conditions unsettled across western and central Kansas through midweek.
